Does Viagra Drug Work in case of Women?
Viagra is one of the most popular drugs used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in case of men. And since it has been proven effective in men, people were always left wondering, if it might have similar effects on women!
In case of women, trials have been conducted and there has not been substantial evidence which proves that Viagra increases the sexual desire in case of women. In order to further dive deep into it, trials were conducted at the UCLA Sexual medical centre were participants were made to take Viagra. In men, Viagra improves the flow of blood to the genital area which improves the erections, thus helping solve the problem of erection dysfunction. In women, such a flow of blood causes no visible change in the sexual desire. However, the increased blood flow did increase the sexual pleasure in women, but one can say it has more to do with the placebo effect than anything else.
Besides, when it comes to Viagra, on females only a limited study has been done and scientists don’t even know the side effects or the long term effects of this drug. Thus Viagra is only restricted to men and should not be had by women, as it causes no visible change.
Other uses of Viagra
In case of women, the trails of Viagra have not just been restricted to the issue of sexual dysfunction. Few scientists have also trailed the drug to be used for fertility treatment. The infertility issue in women is mostly linked to the thin lining of the uterus. Due to the thin lining, the implanting of egg becomes difficult. Viagra has been proven useful in thickening this lining of the uterus thus increasing the chances of pregnancy. Though, these studies have been quite preliminary and need to be taken-up in detail!
Viagra has also been trialled to see if it addresses the problem of period pain in case of women. Viagra due to its tendency of improving the blood flow has been thought of, to improve the period pain. Again, the research for this has been restricted to a small sample and it needs to be explored further.
Alternates to Viagra for women
Currently, there are no known alternates to Viagra and whichever products are available in the market, have their effects quite limited to a restricted set of customers. There have been online sellers who have been promoting herbal supplements with the use of jellies, pills and powders. However, these herbal remedies are nothing but sham and there has been no evidence about their workability.
One particular product which has shown some bit of promise is Female Viagra, which has increased the libido in women. This drug is sold as a herbal supplement and is available at many pharmacies & health food shops. Though trails have shown the effectiveness of the product, gynecologists & urologists doubt the effectiveness. Thus, on the whole, there is no licensed medication available when it comes to the treatment of sexual problems in women.
