How to treat Fatty Liver disease at home
In simple words, by fatty liver disease we mean the accumulation of fat in the liver cells. The presence of fat in the liver is natural but if there is more than 5-10 % of fat, then it is fatty liver disease. An increase of the liver fat makes it susceptible to more injury resulting in more scarring and inflammation.
There are 2 kinds of fatty liver disease- alcoholic and non-alcohol induced. The major reason of alcoholic fatty liver is the consumption of alcohol in excess. Fat builds up in the non-alcoholic fatty liver for some other reasons.
At present, no effective cure is found for fatty liver disease. But it is a reversible condition and usually can be cured with simple changes in the lifestyle, dietary changes, and some home remedies.
Follow these home remedies to treat fatty liver disease:
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is the ideal treatment fatty liver disease.
- Put 1 spoon of unfiltered and raw apple cider vinegar to a cup of warm water.
- You can add honey if you want.
- Drink this twice every day before having food.
- Repeat this remedy for some months.
Lemon
High levels of vitamin C are present in lemon. This antioxidant property helps in the production of glutathione enzymes in the liver.
- Take out the lemon juice in water. Drink this twice or thrice daily for some weeks.
- Also you can add 2-3 chopped lemons to a glass of water and drink this at frequent intervals.
Dandelion
The dandelion herb is considered as a strong liver tonic. Thus it can also be used for the treatment of fatty liver disease.
- Add 1 spoon of dried dandelion root to hot water cup.
- Cover and let it soak for 5-10 minutes. After this, strain and add some honey and drink this.
- Consume this herbal tea every day for some weeks.
- Also fresh and tender dandelion leaves can be added to the salads or you can cook the dandelion leaves and eat as a side dish.
Green tea
Green tea aids in blocking the amount of fat in the liver and enhances the liver function. Also, taking the regular amount of green tea decreased the fat % and body weight.
- Consume 3-4 cups green day daily to treat fatty liver disease and take care of your liver.
- Also you can avail green tea in capsule or liquid extract.

Turmeric
Turmeric enhances the ability of the body to digest fats so that there is no accumulation in the liver. It also helps in the process of liver detoxification.
- Add 1 spoon of turmeric powder in 1-2 glasses of water and keep it on boiling. Drink this two times daily for some weeks.
- Also you can take turmeric supplements in the form of tinctures and capsules after consulting the doctor.
