Need Of The Hour

Women empowerment is one of the most favorite subjects that is always talked about at different platforms. We believe that today’s woman has arrived. People believe that most of the developed countries practice quality and no discrimination of gender. It is true that women have a better access to education and financial independence today. Women have made foray into every profession and proved themselves. However the percentage of women who live in such circumstances is very miniscule compared to the marginalized women who live in the suburbs, in backward and developing societies as well as those who live as refugees and migrants. Life for them is hard. One of the major concerns that has been talked about by WHO on global scale has been the status of Women’s health in these sectors. It has been seen that the child mortality rate and child health is intrinsically dependent upon the mother’s health too. Malnutrition, child abuse, adolescent abuse, lack of basic health care and health education as well as sex education mar the girl’s future health and development.

It should also be noted that the health care needs of women is far higher than that of men. Women have reproduction and child birth related health care needs as well as to address the other health problems. Generally it has been noticed that in most of the developing and under developed countries women hardly have access to a good health care. Even in developed societies, gender inequality is showing up in lack of adequate attention to women’s health care. Apart from the availability of services, the policy mechanisms that are required to spread awareness and education of women’s health care is very minimal in most countries. Women face inequality in terms of income, employment opportunities as well as social setups, thus giving women’s health care a back seat.

Women’s Health

Biologically it is seen that women generally outlive men. However, the lack of attention to women’s health care services and the burden of facing and managing all life’s challenges often reduce the life span of women and lower their immunity, making them susceptible to diseases and poor physical health.

Some of the initiatives undertaken by the Governmental health care services in China, focusing on improving the health care services and access to women and the emphasis of health care education to adolescents and young mothers has improved not only the mother’s health but even the child health too. A lot of diseases like TB, Malaria, Measles and other infections have been eradicated successfully with proper preventive health care facilities being made available to the pregnant mothers.

The future of our communities depends upon the Mother. Woman plays the most crucial role in every family and in every society. If we are to hope for a healthy society in future, we have got to ensure a healthy and happy life for every mother. A healthy mother is able to give her best to the family and ensure her children are healthy, happy and secure too. As the saying goes ‘Health is Wealth’. This is especially true in the case of every woman.
